What the Rest of the World is Celebrating While Occupant Wants to Rip Up the First Amendment

While the Occupant in the Oval Office and his Billionaire Boys Club are doing their inept best to bulldoze the federal government, and stifle dissent in America, in the rest of the world, tomorrow is World Press Freedom Day.

Proclaimed in 1993 by the UN General Assembly, World Press Freedom Day commemorates the Windhoek Declaration produced at a 1991 UNESCO seminar in Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, to promote an independent and pluralistic African Press. World Press Freedom Day expands the declaration’s principles to support of freedom of the press throughout the world as a keystone of participatory democracy.

The ‘Press‘ has changed radically, and now includes broadcasts of news on radio and television, and the vast and wildly varied news coverage on the Internet, while newspapers struggle to survive. Yet the principle of a free press has never been more urgently in need of defending in our country, which made a free press fundamental to the Rule of Law, and inspired the spread of that principle to the rest of the world.

It is a sorry day when the world celebrates what we started, while the Occupant in the Oval Office issues threats against the Constitution, and one-third of Americans think he’s right.

Ignorance is not Bliss — it’s dangerous as hell.
